How To Determine the size of your French Press

  1. Fill your Press with water to about an inch below the top metal band.
  2. Pour that water into a measuring cup.
  3. This will give you oz capacity of your favorite brew. "3 cup" = 12 oz. "4 cup" = 16 oz. "8 cup" = 32 oz. "12 cup" = 48 oz.

  • Please remember that French Press industry "cup" sizing is based on 4oz French "tasse" and not 8oz US standard cup.
  • Please note: All wraps are sized for universal fit (all brands with the exception of Bodum 4 cup presses, which have a shorter, wider base). Therefore, when ordering a 4 cup wrap, be sure to choose the correct size for your press. The presses that we sell match the sizes of our wraps.
  • We offer the 4 cup wrap for the non-Bodum Chambord Style French Press, which we retail. We DO NOT currently supply 4 cup Bodum presses or the wraps to fit them!

Confused about Sizes?

"Cup" size is confusing because the originators of the French Press used the French 4 ounce "tasse" as the basis for the size of a cup. We have now clarified sizing by adding ounce sizes for our pots and wraps.

For example, an 8 cup French Press is 32 ounces, which makes about 2 1/2 - 3 mugs of excellent coffee.

The 12 cup French Press is great for entertaining because it will make 5 - 6 mugs of your favorite blend. Great for two dedicated coffee drinkers!
